Portuguese is the 5th most “spoken” language in the Internet


According to the International Union of Telecommunications (UIT), Portuguese is the 5th most “spoken” idiom on the internet, raking higher than Arabic, French and German.

Nowadays there are approximately 83 million users who speak both European and Brazilian Portuguese surfing the Internet, which proves the growth of the Lusophone population on the web. Estimations state that in the near future the Portuguese language may also surpass the Japanese idiom, today with 99 million users, once the Internet reach the same levels of social penetration in African Portuguese speaking countries, such as Angola and Mozambique. Occupying the first three places in the rank are the English language (565 million users), the Chinese (510 million users) and the Spanish idiom (165 million users).
