Tourism Networking Success

The Portugal Experience Workshop took place in Dublin  on April 23rd  and was attended by travel Agents, DAA, Cork Airport, Aer Lingus, SATA, ITAA’s Pat Dawson and Claire Dunne, as well as members of the irish press and travel writers. Ambassador Bernard Futscher Pereira, together with Jose Ramos, Director Portugal Tourist Board Ireland/Trade Commissioner hosted the event that brought to Ireland  tourism offer from all over mainland Portugal, and Madeira along with Aer Lingus and SATA.

This event consisted of a workshop, a presentation, a trading time and a dinner was the last of a series of portuguese tourism promotion actions around Ireland  in the month of April that included  Cork, Limerick and Galway.


The  flow of irish tourists to Portugal is ever increasing, up in 2012 and with 2013 figures already looking promising.  Over 420,000 irish tourist travelled to Portugal last year, with over 75 of those heading for the Algarve.  Visits to Lisbon and the Lisbon coastal resorts of Estoril and Cascais in particular are also growing, as well as to Madeira and to lesser known regions such as Alentejo, Porto and the DouroValley. The new wine routes and the coastal walking routes in the southwest are also bound to attract new visitors.


It was a joyful and profitable evening for promoters, agents and all present. Prizes  were given by Aer Lingus, SATA and several hoteliers  participating in the event. Aer Lingus racketed  tickets to Lisbon and Faro for 2 people, and these were won by Laurie Calhoun from the Travel Dept. and Olga Tyrrell from Abbey Travel. SATA and Melia Madeira Mare and Vidamar Resorts offered holidays to Madeira. Michelle Anderson from Topflight won a week to the Solares Hotel. Marie Doherty from Topflight had a really lucky evening and won a stay in the Pousada de Estay as well as a stay in the Epic Sana Algarve Albufeira. Other prizes were given by Marina Club Lagos Resort, DomPedroHotels, Pestana Hotels & Resors, Hotel Solverde Spa and WellnessCenter, FatimaHotels and the Praia D’El Rey Marriott Golf and Beach Resort.
